Davis Cup - Great Britain vs Ukraine - Rusedski in critical opening clashThe long awaited Davis Cup tie between Great Britain and Ukraine in Odessa has started today. Great Britain are currently in the second tier of the Davis Cup competition – Group I. Above them is the top tier – the World Group – and below them are Group II, Group III and Group IV. Each group below the World Group is divided into three zones – Europe/Africa, the Americas and Asia/Oceania. If Britain beats Ukraine in this tie taking place September 22nd to 24th, in their Group I relegation play-off, they will remain in Group I for next year’s competition. If, however, Great Britain lose to the Ukraine, they will be relegated to the tier below, Group II. Greg Rusedki had a disatrous start of the opening tie against Ulkraine number 1 S Stakhovsky losing the first set by 1-6 . Greg really needed to win this match to give the team every chance of success. After a nail biting match and saving one match point agaisnt him, Greg Rusedki fought back to win 1-6 6-3 5-7 6-4 9-7 The second rubber is due on court shortly between Andy Murray and the 17 year old Ukranian number 2
