Money slated to deliver a so-called legacy for the 2012 Olympic Games have been cut by the London Development Agency after a bungled land deal blew a £160 million hole in its budget.
Instead of jacking up the costs of the event by another £160 million we are told cuts will be made to planned programmes. Judging by the look of them most of the money was probably going to be frittered away anyway.
Savings will apparently be made by:
- A £2 million cut in funding for a tarting up of part of the marathon route.
- A £1 million cut a project to "decorate" bridges and underpasses.
- Cutting a taxi driver "diversity programme" by £150,000.
- Cutting the Building Energy Efficiency Programme by £2.5 million etc etc.
